Producer Ekta Kapoor has announced plans for a sequel to Bollywood film ‘The Dirty Picture’, 15 years after the original hit theatres, sparking fresh interest among fans.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Ekta said she was planning to make ‘The Dirty Picture 2’. However, she did not reveal details about the lead cast, other crew members or the release date.
She said she now had a strong story that she was eager to share with audiences.
Recalling the original film’s portrayal of Silk Smitha’s life and bold personality, Ekta said she had seen the actress as someone who chose to live on her own terms despite society’s attempts to marginalise her. Silk, she added, always celebrated her own identity.
Released in December 2011, the original film featured Vidya Balan in the lead role. Her performance received widespread acclaim. Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor also played key roles in the film, which drew considerable attention at the box office.
