Dr Sohel Mahmud, who conducted the autopsy on blogger and secular writer Niladri Chattopadhyay, popularly known as Niloy Neel, testified in court on Monday in the long-pending murder case.

With his testimony, six witnesses have so far testified in the case. The court scheduled November 25 for the next hearing.

Judge Alamgir Hossain of the Dhaka First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court recorded the testimony.

Niloy was killed on August 7, 2015, at his rented flat on the fifth floor of a building in Goran, Khilgaon, in the capital. Four men entered the flat on the pretext of renting a house, held his wife, Ashamoni, at gunpoint, killed him and fled.

His wife filed a murder case with Khilgaon Police Station that night against four unidentified men.

On October 4, 2020, police submitted a charge sheet against 13 people. The trial began on January 18, 2022, after charges were framed against the accused.

Among the 13 accused, Major Syed Mohammad Ziaul Haque and Kawsar Hossain Khan are absconding and face arrest warrants. Five others are in jail, while the remaining five are out on bail.
