The government will officially observe 92 national and international days under a new circular issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday (October 12).

Under the revised decision, the days will remain divided into three categories — ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ — comprising 18, 39 and 35 days respectively.

According to the circular, November 7 has been included in Category ‘A’ as National Revolution and Solidarity Day, while National Rural Development Day on July 6 has been added to Category ‘B’.

The government has also decided to observe National Tea Day on May 21 instead of June 4. The new circular replaces the previous one issued on March 11.

Regarding expenditure, the circular allows a maximum of Tk 50,000 from government funds for observing Category ‘B’ days. No special allocation from the development budget will be provided for Category ‘C’ days, while no specific spending limit has been set for Category ‘A’ days.

The circular calls for avoiding excessive decorations and elaborate arrangements as far as possible. Seminars, symposiums and discussion programmes on radio and television may be organised to mark the occasions.

It also advises authorities to avoid rallies and processions on working days and exercise restraint in bringing district-level officials to Dhaka for observances.

For programmes marking Education Week, Primary Education Week, Science Week, World Breastfeeding Week, World Children's Week, National Livestock Week, Armed Forces Day, Police Week, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Week, Ansar Week, Fisheries Fortnight, Tree Plantation Campaign and National Sports Week, the relevant ministries have been instructed to implement activities in line with directives from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
