A Dhaka tribunal has deferred the hearing on charge framing against temporarily suspended Mitford Hospital doctor Enamul Hossain in a case filed over the alleged rape of a young woman on the promise of marriage.
Judge Sohel Rana of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 on Tuesday fixed January 14 for the next hearing and extended the accused’s bail until then.
The complainant alleged that Enamul assaulted her on September 12 and pressured her to withdraw the case. Following a police report supporting the allegation, the prosecution sought cancellation of his bail on September 29.
According to the case statement, the woman became acquainted with Enamul about three years ago through a college friend. He allegedly had sexual relations with her on several occasions on the promise of marriage.
On May 25 last year, he allegedly took her to a hotel in Panthapath, Dhaka and raped her several times. When she later pressed him to marry her, he allegedly threatened to circulate her intimate photographs with another man and subsequently cut off contact.
The woman filed the case with Kalabagan Police Station on November 24 last year. Inspector Nazma Akter of the Women Support and Investigation Division submitted a charge sheet against Enamul on May 31.
