19 fire service units battle blaze at Essential Drugs factory

A fire broke out at the factory of pharmaceutical company Essential Drugs International in Cherag Ali, Tongi, Gazipur, on Wednesday morning, prompting 19 firefighting units to respond.

The Fire Service received information about the blaze at 10:15 AM and dispatched firefighters to the scene. They arrived at 10:25 AM and began efforts to bring the fire under control.

Shahjahan Shikder, head of the media cell at Fire Service headquarters, said steps were taken to deploy the necessary units immediately after the incident was reported.

Shaheen Alam, senior station officer of Tongi Fire Service, said nine units initially began firefighting operations. Another 10 units were later sent to the scene, bringing the total to 19.

The site is about two kilometres from the relevant fire service station.

The cause of the fire, the extent of the damage and any casualties were not immediately known. Further details are expected after the fire is brought under control.
