‘Army won’t be deployed in Thakurgaon by-poll’

The Election Commission will not deploy the army for the Thakurgaon by-election scheduled for 29 October. However, the number of security personnel will be three times higher than in the national election, Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah has said. 

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting with officials involved in election duties at the Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner's conference room on Wednesday.

Sanaullah said the Election Commission was taking steps to prevent violence, illegal activities and attempts to disrupt the vote.

He added that all officials must remain alert to prevent violence and other illegal activities.
