A fire was set to the district office of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Bogura in the early hours of Thursday.

The incident took place sometime after midnight on Wednesday near Altafunnesa Playground in the town. A video of the incident has since circulated on social media.

The video shows three young men sprinkling what appears to be oil or petrol on the office before setting it on fire, while another person records the incident on a mobile phone. However, their faces are not clearly visible.

Expressing anger over the incident, Bogura district NCP Member Secretary Sultan Mahmud said the miscreants carried out the act between 1:00 AM and 1:30 AM.

He said they informed the administration after discovering the incident in the morning, adding that police had assured them that the matter was being looked into.

Sultan Mahmud said the party's central committee had been informed and further action would be taken in line with its instructions.

He alleged that associates of the ousted government might be behind the incident, claiming that attempts were being made to marginalise the party that emerged from the mass uprising. However, he said it was too early to identify anyone specifically and called for an investigation.

Bogura Additional Superintendent of Police and media spokesperson Atowar Rahman said, "police were aware of the incident but had not yet received a written complaint. Legal action would be taken following an investigation if a complaint was filed, he added."
