A woman known locally as ‘Bhabhi’ is among the key figures linked to the ‘De Lara’ group, described as one of the most influential gangs operating in Uttara and surrounding areas of Dhaka.

The group’s activities reportedly extend from Uttara to North Khan, South Khan and Tongi. Its alleged leader is Sakibul Hasan Sani, also known as Pichchi Sani, who is accused of controlling a drug-trading network along the railway line from Uttara Sector 8 to Tongi railway station.

Cannabis, yaba, ice and phensedyl are among the drugs reportedly sold in the area.

According to information provided by several senior members of the group during a meeting on October 9, another teenage gang leader, Raihan, is known as Sani’s close associate. Other alleged members include Palash, known as ‘Snatching Palash’, Roni Sikder, drug dealer Mashiur, Saiful, Shawon, Shipu, Faruk, Asadul, Fahim, Shahidul and Nazmul.

The woman’s real name is not known locally, and she is identified only as ‘Bhabhi’. Her husband’s name is Apu, according to the group members.

The information emerged during a meeting with four teenage gang members near a field in the Uttara Sector 8 area. They asked the reporting team to keep their identities confidential and not record the conversation.

When asked how they continued drug trading without being arrested by police, some members alleged that money played a role in the process. They claimed that police found Tk 10 lakh in cash in Sani’s vehicle when he was arrested.

Asked about Sani’s political affiliation, the members said he had previously held a post in the Bangladesh Chhatra League. They claimed that after August 5, he began identifying himself as a leader of the ruling party. However, they said they did not know whether he held any position in the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal or another organisation.

The members also claimed that Sani returned to the area in a show of strength after being released from police custody.
