Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of 10 tourists in a fire at TupTup Resort and Restaurant in Inani, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, and demanded an investigation into alleged fire safety negligence and punishment for those responsible.
In a joint condolence message on Saturday, October 17, party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Manju and General Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad made the demand.
They described the deaths, including six members of the same family and young students, as heartbreaking and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. They also wished a speedy recovery for those injured in the fire.
According to media reports cited in the statement, the Fire Service had reportedly found about six months ago that the resort lacked the required fire safety approval. The party leaders said failure to take necessary action would amount to serious negligence.
They said timely and effective measures could have saved many lives.
The AB Party leaders called for an impartial investigation, a review of the role of the relevant authorities and legal action against those found responsible for negligence. They also urged the authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured.
They further called for stronger monitoring to ensure fire safety at all hotels and resorts across the country.
