Former Chief of Air Staff of Bangladesh Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan, has been arrested in Qatar in connection with a corruption case.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Sheikh Abdul Hannan, accusing him of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 3.28 crore. Additionally, the anti-graft watchdog uncovered unusual transactions exceeding Tk 27 crore across various bank accounts under his name.

The same case charges his wife, Tahmida Begum, with acquiring illegal wealth totaling Tk 1.91 crore. The ACC also reported finding suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 1.18 crore in bank accounts registered under her name.

ACC inquiries further revealed information regarding overseas assets belonging to Sheikh Abdul Hannan, notably in Canada and Dubai. The commission stated that the exact locations and details of these assets will be pinpointed through ongoing investigation.

Sheikh Abdul Hannan was commissioned into the Bangladesh Air Force in 1984. He assumed command as the 16th Chief of Air Staff on June 12, 2021, and retired from service on June 11, 2024.
