Netflix is developing a new Bridgerton spinoff centred on the love story of Violet Bridgerton and her late husband, Edmund Bridgerton, exploring the romance that shaped the family at the heart of the hit period drama.
The upcoming limited series will be created and co-written by Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini, according to ScreenRant. Unlike Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which focused on royal romance and court politics, the new series will delve into Violet and Edmund’s relationship and its lasting influence on their eight children.
The love story is expected to shed light on the foundations of the Bridgerton family and explain why Violet places such importance on her children finding happiness and lasting romantic partnerships.
Violet’s devotion to her late husband has remained central to her character throughout the original series. Her experiences have shaped her approach to marriage, setting her apart from other mothers in Regency-era high society who prioritise financial security and social standing.
In Bridgerton season four, Violet also explores a new romantic relationship with Lord Marcus Anderson, Lady Danbury’s brother. However, their engagement ends as Violet seeks greater freedom to rediscover herself beyond her roles as a wife and mother.
The new spinoff follows the success of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which explored the relationship between Queen Charlotte and King George III while expanding the franchise’s historical timeline.
Meanwhile, ScreenRant has suggested that Netflix could further expand the franchise with a separate series centred on Lady Agatha Danbury. The character, a close confidante of both Charlotte and Violet, could feature in a story exploring her travels, return to her homeland and prospects for finding love beyond English high society.
Netflix has yet to confirm such a project, leaving the proposed Danbury spinoff speculative.
