Legendary filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed period thriller ‘The Prestige’ is set to return to theatres in 70mm IMAX format to mark its 20th anniversary.

Originally released on October 20, 2006, the movie was a major box-office success upon its initial release, though it was screened only in standard formats at the time. Disney announced that the film will be re-released worldwide on January 29, 2027.

Expressing his excitement in a statement, director Christopher Nolan said he is thrilled to bring ‘The Prestige’ back to the big screen, noting that audiences will experience the film in 70mm IMAX for the first time.

The narrative centres on an intense lifelong rivalry between two 19th-century stage magicians, played by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. The ensemble cast also features Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall, Andy Serkis, and David Bowie.

Produced on a budget of 40 million US dollars, the film grossed 109 million US dollars globally during its original theatrical run and earned two Academy Award nominations.

Nolan co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan and co-produced the project alongside Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder. The success of ‘The Prestige’ cemented Nolan's reputation in Hollywood, paving the way for iconic blockbusters such as ‘The Dark Knight Trilogy’, ‘Inception’, ‘Interstellar’, and ‘Oppenheimer’.
