The National Citizen Party (NCP) has reconstituted its 195-member central committee, promoting several leaders, abolishing seven organisational posts and expanding its highest policy-making body, the Political Council.

Under the reshuffle, Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain have retained their positions. Nasiruddin Patwary and Hasnat Abdullah have been promoted to Senior Joint Conveners, while Sarjis Alam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan have become Senior Joint Member-Secretaries.

The new committee was announced on Friday through a notification signed by Sadia Farzana Dinar, the party’s Office Cell Secretary.

The reorganisation abolishes seven posts: Chief Coordinator, Chief Organiser for the Northern Region, Chief Organiser for the Southern Region, Spokesperson, Senior Joint Chief Coordinator, Organiser and Joint Chief Coordinator.

Samanta Sharmin, Ariful Islam Adib and Abdul Hannan Masud, who previously held senior organisational positions, have been appointed Joint Conveners. Nahida Sarwar Niva has been designated a Joint Member-Secretary.

Under the previous structure, Patwary served as Chief Coordinator, Sarjis as Chief Organiser for the Northern Region, Hasnat as Chief Organiser for the Southern Region and Asif Mahmud as Spokesperson.

The former committee also had 42 regional organisers and 23 Joint Chief Coordinators.

The reconstituted committee comprises 24 Joint Conveners, six Joint Member-Secretaries, 32 secretarial positions, 19 Assistant Secretaries, 58 general members and 11 Organisational Secretaries.

Among the new entrants are A.K. Flora, granddaughter of A.K. Fazlul Huq, the first Prime Minister of undivided Bengal, and expelled BNP leader Ishaq Sarkar, convener of the NCP’s Dhaka Metropolitan South unit. Both have been appointed Joint Conveners. Tareq A. Adel, a former adviser to the Jatiya Party, has also joined the ranks of Joint Conveners.

The NCP launched its organisational activities with a 217-member central committee on February 28, 2025. Subsequent additions and removals changed its composition.

Meanwhile, the party has expanded its Political Council from 10 to 16 members.

The council includes the party’s top leaders and MPs, including two lawmakers elected to reserved seats for women, Nusrat Tabassum and Mahmuda Alam Mitu.

Three of the party’s eight MPs hold senior leadership positions: Nahid Islam, Akhtar Hossain and Hasnat Abdullah. The other five"Abdullah Al Amin, Atiqur Rahman Mujahid, Abdul Hannan Masud, Mahmuda Alam Mitu and Nusrat Tabassum"serve as Joint Conveners.

The reorganised Political Council also includes Sarjis Alam, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Ariful Islam Adib, Ali Ahsan Junaid, Sarwar Tushar, Akram Hussain and Saleh Uddin Sifat.
