Canadian authorities have filed charges against five Bangladeshi nationals over an alleged immigration fraud scheme involving 243 temporary resident visa applications submitted on behalf of 209 Bangladeshis in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced the charges on October 22, 2026, alleging that the accused attempted to obtain temporary resident visas (TRVs) by submitting false information and forged documents while misrepresenting Canadian citizens as hosts for the applicants.

According to the agency, four of the accused -- Rashel Mirza, Mohammad Aminul Islam, Md Mudassar Alam Bhuiyan and Kazi Nafiz Alam -- appeared before the Valleyfield Court in Quebec on October 22.

The fifth accused, Md Rakibul Hasan, is reportedly in Bangladesh. An arrest warrant has been issued against him, the CBSA said.

Citing the scale and complexity of the alleged fraud, investigators selected 79 of the 243 visa applications for formal presentation of evidence.

According to the CBSA, these applications contain the strongest evidence supporting the allegations.

The case centres on allegations that the applicants' visa applications were supported by false representations about their Canadian hosts and fraudulent documentation.

The charges concern alleged immigration fraud. The allegations have not been established as proven in court.
