Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been appointed head coach of Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL), replacing Mahela Jayawardene.
The five-time IPL champions announced Pollard’s promotion from batting coach on Saturday (October 24), extending his 16-year association with the franchise.
Pollard, 39, was part of all five of Mumbai Indians’ title-winning campaigns in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. He represented the franchise in 189 IPL matches, scoring 3,412 runs and taking 69 wickets.
After retiring as an IPL player in 2022, he continued with Mumbai Indians as batting coach.
Pollard said he was honoured to take on the new responsibility and thanked the franchise’s owners and supporters for their trust.
He said he looked forward to working with the players and support staff, developing talent and building on the team’s legacy.
Jayawardene’s departure was announced on October 17 after Mumbai Indians finished ninth in the 2026 season. The franchise will now look to Pollard to help revive its fortunes in IPL 2027.
