African side boast a 3.74 win-loss ratio after 101 victories in 131 matches, despite limited exposure to top-ranked opponents

While India celebrated becoming the first team to register 200 victories in men's T20 internationals after beating New Zealand, Uganda grabbed attention with a remarkable statistical record of their own.

The African side has emerged as one of the most successful teams among those with at least 100 T20 international wins, boasting a win-loss ratio that surpasses India's and leaves Bangladesh and several other full-member nations well behind.

Only nine teams have recorded at least 100 victories in men's T20 internationals. Uganda have won 101 of their 131 matches, giving them a win-loss ratio of 3.74, according to the figures cited in the report.

India, by comparison, have reached the landmark of 200 wins in 300 matches, with a win-loss ratio of 2.409.

Bangladesh's record is considerably less impressive. In 222 T20 internationals, the Tigers have secured 89 victories against 128 defeats, resulting in a win-loss ratio of just 0.695.

Among the established Test-playing nations, none has achieved a win-loss ratio of 2.0, according to the figures cited.

Pakistan lead the group with a ratio of 1.487, followed by Afghanistan at 1.455, England at 1.413 and Australia at 1.361. South Africa stand at 1.297, New Zealand at 1.150, West Indies at 0.843, Ireland at 0.819, Sri Lanka at 0.798 and Zimbabwe at 0.574.

The figures underline Uganda's impressive record in the shortest international format, although their relatively limited exposure to stronger opposition is an important factor when assessing the numbers.

Unlike the leading cricket nations, Uganda have played most of their T20 internationals against lower-ranked teams and have had relatively few opportunities to test themselves regularly against the sport's established powers.

At the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies, Uganda played five matches against New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.

Uganda continued their winning run on Saturday in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier, dismissing Mozambique for just 19 runs before racing to victory by 10 wickets.

The team, ranked 21st in the T20 international rankings, chased down the target in just five deliveries.

The emphatic victory placed Uganda joint-second on the list of men's T20 international wins achieved with the most balls remaining.

Spain hold the record, having beaten the Isle of Man in 2023 with 118 balls to spare.

Uganda's latest performance adds to their growing reputation in T20 cricket. However, their exceptional win-loss ratio will face a more demanding test if they can secure regular fixtures against higher-ranked international sides.
