Pope Leo XIV has urged an end to violence in Yemen, expressing concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in the southwestern city of Taiz, where residents face shortages of food, water and medical assistance.
Addressing the faithful from a window overlooking St Peter’s Square on Sunday (October 25), the 71-year-old pontiff made an appeal for an immediate halt to hostilities.
“I’m making a heartfelt appeal for the hostilities to stop so that the people in Yemen and across the entire region can live in peace,” he said.
The pope also highlighted the suffering of Taiz residents, who continue to face severe shortages of essential supplies amid the ongoing conflict.
His appeal comes as renewed fighting in Yemen deepens humanitarian concerns and raises calls for peace across the region.
