The government will cancel the allocation of any government flat where Aedes mosquito larvae are found, Local Government State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said on Monday.

Speaking at a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, he said monitoring teams had been instructed to take strict legal action and impose hefty fines for violations.

He said inspections of government quarters, apartments and hospitals had revealed mosquito larvae and negligence.

The minister also said the two Dhaka city corporations were working to clean up lakes and re-excavate 55 canals to improve the city’s environment.

He expressed hope that coordinated efforts by 20 monitoring committees would bring visible changes to Dhaka within one to two months.
