Bangladesh added another gold medal to its growing international archery haul as the recurve men's team defeated Kazakhstan 6-2 in the final of the Asia Cup World Ranking Tournament 2026, Leg 2, in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, on Thursday.
Abdur Rahman Alif, Md Sagar Islam and Abdullah Al Mohammad Rafi combined to produce a composed comeback after Bangladesh fell behind in the opening set. Coach Martin Frederick guided the trio through the final.
Kazakhstan took the first set 53-50, leaving Bangladesh with work to do. The Bangladeshi archers, however, quickly found their rhythm and turned the contest on its head.
They edged Kazakhstan 55-54 in the second set before tightening their grip with a 55-52 victory in the third. Bangladesh then held their nerve in the decisive fourth set, winning 52-51 to seal the match 6-2 on set points.
The victory underlined Bangladesh's growing strength in recurve archery and showcased the team's ability to absorb early pressure before hitting back with greater precision and composure.
The gold is another significant milestone for Bangladesh archery on the international circuit, coming as the country continues to build momentum across both recurve and compound disciplines.
With Alif, Sagar and Rafi keeping their heads when the contest threatened to slip away, Bangladesh turned an early deficit into a commanding victory, a fine demonstration of teamwork, resilience and accuracy when it mattered most.
