Kasim and Sulaiman Khan, sons of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, have expressed grave concern over their father's life, alleging that he is being tortured in prison under the directions of Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir.
Speaking to the British media outlet The Independent, Sulaiman claimed that family members and lawyers have been completely denied access to the 74-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder since August.
He raised fears that the authorities might push his father toward a tragic fate similar to former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, who collapsed and died in court in 2019 after years of harsh imprisonment.
Sulaiman further alleged that military and government authorities are ignoring a Supreme Court order issued in August that directed officials to transfer Imran Khan to a private hospital for medical check-ups and allow regular family visits.
However, the Pakistan government has strongly denied all allegations of mistreatment or solitary confinement, clarifying that Imran Khan is serving a judicial sentence as a convicted prisoner following court rulings in multiple corruption cases.
The ongoing detention of the former prime minister has sparked severe political unrest across Pakistan, with PTI supporters holding mass demonstrations and marches demanding his immediate release and proper medical care.
Tensions escalated further after President Asif Ali Zardari declared a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and suspended the PTI-led provincial government, a move the party described as an attempt to crush their movement.
