A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand for Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, arrested as a suspect in the murder case filed over the death of former Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant K M Tahsif Sauri.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Pias passed the order on Saturday after a hearing.
Dip was produced before the court at around 2:15PM. Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Naval Police's Tongi outpost sought a seven-day remand for questioning, citing the need for a proper investigation into the case. The court, however, granted four days.
According to the remand application, Tahsif, a former Air Force officer, lived in an apartment in Sector 18 under Turag Police Station.
At around 6PM on October 27, Dip allegedly called Tahsif and took him outside. Tahsif remained missing from that point onward.
The following day, at around 4:30PM, police received information through the National Emergency Service 999 that an unidentified body was floating in the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat under Uttarkhan Police Station.
Police recovered the body and conducted an initial inquest. The deceased was identified through an iPhone found in the pocket of his trousers.
The remand petition further stated that information gathered through technological analysis and intelligence sources indicated that Dip had taken Tahsif to the Mazar Basti area under Tongi West Police Station on the day he went missing.
During preliminary questioning, Dip reportedly acknowledged that Tahsif was his senior and that he regarded him as an elder brother.
Investigators are now expected to question Dip during the four-day remand to establish the circumstances surrounding Tahsif's disappearance and death.
