State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit has said the Bangladesh Institute of Health Management in Savar which has remained neglected and unused for years is set to formally begin operations on January 1.
He also said that all renovation work would be completed by December 31, making the institute fully operational.
The state minister made the announcement on Saturday after inspecting the institute’s infrastructure.
Earlier, he held a meeting with local representatives, politicians, the health secretary, the secretary-general of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), Public Works Department (PWD) engineers and other government officials.
The meeting decided that a joint team from the Health Ministry, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and PWD would inspect the facility within the next two weeks and prepare an inventory of damaged or stolen equipment.
The PWD will also arrange office space for officials and take steps to activate the substation within the next one or two days.
Announcing that the institute would be inaugurated on January 1, Dr Muhith said that the facility which had been left neglected due to mismanagement and lack of attention under the previous government would be transformed into a national training centre to develop doctors into skilled administrators.
He further alleged that the previous fascist government had ruined the country’s entire healthcare system through misuse of public funds and corruption.
