Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud announced that a law regarding rooftop solar power generation will be passed in the upcoming session of Parliament.
He made the statement while speaking at a roundtable discussion organized by the New Age newspaper in the capital on Saturday, October 31.
The minister acknowledged that global geopolitical conflicts have driven energy and power challenges that cannot be resolved overnight, but assured that the government is working tirelessly to keep energy supply at tolerable levels.
He noted that to ease the pressure of global energy shortages on citizens, the government made a necessary decision to provide subsidies.
As part of long-term energy solutions, the government is prioritizing solar energy, including launching a domestic rooftop program in Bhaluka to encourage widespread household adoption. In response to concerns over solar panel quality, he affirmed that strict monitoring will be maintained to regulate market standards.
The minister also disclosed that instructions have been issued to local government bodies, the health department, and district administrations to adopt solar power systems, adding that 8,600 service providers have already been enlisted at the local level to drive implementation and generate new employment opportunities.
