Offensive political messages and images depicting violence appeared on the website of DMP News, the online news portal of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), raising suspicions of a possible cyberattack.
Upon accessing the website, visitors saw an image of police alongside scenes of violence and a message reading, “Police, no matter how much you beat us, can you forget August 5?” Background music was also heard on the website.
Such content was visible when the website was accessed late on Saturday night (October 31). The appearance of political messages and violent images instead of the portal's regular news content raised questions about whether the website had been hacked or targeted in a cyberattack.
The DMP News website is now inaccessible. However, there has been no official confirmation as to whether it was hacked.
According to the information published on its website, DMP News is the online news portal of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. It publishes reports on various DMP activities, crime-related news, public awareness information and police affairs.
Attempts were made to contact several officials of the DMP's Media Division by phone and message for comments, but none of them could be reached for a statement.
