A faction of the banned Awami League's Mohammadpur unit held a torch procession in the capital's Kallyanpur area on Saturday evening.

The procession began around 7pm from the Darus Salam area and ended in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station area.

A video of the procession has since circulated on social media, showing more than 50 Mohammadpur Awami League members marching with torches.

According to sources, the procession was organised on the instructions of Tarequeuzzaman Rajib, member secretary of the Mohammadpur unit and a former councillor.

Mohammad Fazlul Haque, second-in-command of the Tejgaon division police, confirmed the incident, saying the procession started from the Darus Salam police station area before ending in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar
