Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday (November 1) called the 2024 Lok Sabha elections “illegal”, alleging vote theft through electronic voting machines (EVMs) and manipulation of voter lists, and warned that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would be removed from office and jailed.
Addressing an INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, Gandhi described the alleged vote theft as an act of treason.
“This theft of votes is no ordinary theft. This is the theft of every voice of India. This is called treason,” he said.
Gandhi claimed that 15 per cent of voters had been removed from electoral rolls after the 2024 elections. He also cited an alleged three-percentage-point vote difference between the INDIA bloc and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
He further claimed that Narendra Modi would not have become prime minister and Amit Shah home minister without Gyanesh Kumar.
“I am telling every citizen and every youth of India: Gyanesh Kumar will be removed from the post of Chief Election Commissioner. Gyanesh Kumar will go to jail,” Gandhi declared.
He also criticised the government over farmers’ rights, unemployment and the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few people.
Note: The allegations of vote theft and electoral manipulation are Rahul Gandhi’s claims and should not be presented as established facts.
