The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has been authorized to permit single-line registration numbers on the front section of motorcycles alongside multiple plate sizes tailored to vehicle designs.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued a gazette notification amending Rule 36 of the Road Transport Rules 2022 by exercising powers conferred under Section 122 of the Road Transport Act 2018.
Under the amended regulations, the authority may permit the registration number to be displayed in a single horizontal line on the front of motorcycles in addition to the previously prescribed multi-line format.
Furthermore, BRTA can now approve the display of front registration marks across retro-reflective plates of varying length and width dimensions based on the specific design of the motorcycle.
The revised rules grant the authority the power to determine the height of letters, dimensions for district or region designations, vehicle category markings, spacing between numbers, top plate margins, and hyphen lengths.
In single-line displays, a hyphen of specified length will be inserted following the district or region code and the vehicle category mark.
The notification was issued by Deputy Secretary Al-Amin Md Nurul Islam on October 28 under the President's order and takes immediate effect.
