Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that three oil tankers exploded after striking naval mines while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz without Tehran's permission.

The IRGC Navy said the vessels caught fire after hitting the mines while travelling through the southern part of the strategic waterway. According to the force, the ships had switched off their location-tracking systems while navigating the strait without Iran's authorisation.

The IRGC said the vessels were later seen on fire near the southern coast of the strait.

Tehran has repeatedly warned against unauthorised vessel movements through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important routes for global energy shipments.

Meanwhile, the IRGC has claimed that it shot down two US drones over the coastal city of Bandar Khamir in Iran.

According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC shot down two LUCAS drones in the coastal area of Bandar Khamir.

The IRGC Navy had earlier claimed that it destroyed another drone over the Strait of Hormuz last night.

The report did not mention any response from the United States regarding the alleged downing of the drones or the reported tanker explosions.
