Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has rejected remarks by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General on its recent research report on political parties' institutional governance, describing them as misleading and a distortion of facts.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, TIB said Jamaat's claim of ensuring women's participation through separate organisational committees was misleading, as such arrangements did not constitute meaningful inclusion in the party's mainstream leadership.
The research found that Jamaat's 19-member Central Executive Council for 2023-25, published on its website, had no female members, which TIB said violated the Representation of the People Order (RPO), 1972.
Under Section 90B(1)(b)(ii) of the RPO, political parties are required to set a target of reserving at least 33 per cent of positions in all committees for women and gradually achieve the target by 2030.
