Three high-ranking officials from the US Department of Justice (DOJ), including a senior federal prosecutor leading broad inquiries targeting political opponents of President Donald Trump, have resigned following the recent midterm elections.

Among those stepping down is Jason Redding Quinones, who resigned from his position as US Attorney for South Florida under pressure from department leadership.

John Eisenberg, head of the National Security Division, announced his resignation on Friday (November 6), while Harmeet Dhillon stepped down as head of the Civil Rights Division on Thursday (November 7).

According to department sources, Quinones’ departure follows growing friction with top officials after failing to deliver on high-profile indictments involving former government officials who investigated Trump and his campaigns between 2016 and 2024. Despite utilizing a grand jury in Fort Pierce, Florida, the promised charges failed to materialize within the expected timeframe.

Attorney General Todd Blanche formally announced Quinones' exit in a social media post on Friday, stating, "The Department is grateful for Jason's leadership."

The resignations come amidst broader leadership adjustments as the second Trump administration enters its final two years. With Democrats set to assume oversight roles and launch congressional investigations following the midterm results, several top DOJ officials reportedly viewed internal hardliners as potential liabilities.

The departures present a potential operational challenge for the administration, as filling these vacancies may face confirmation hurdles in a Democratic-controlled Senate. However, the President retains the authority to appoint acting heads to serve through the remainder of the term.
