A series of violent altercations between students at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has sparked campus-wide tensions, prompting formal complaints to the university proctor.
The incidents began when S.M. Merazul Anwar Siam, a first-year residential student of Isha Khan Hall, lodged a written complaint accusing Nazmul Hasan Emon, a first-year student of Suhrawardy Hall, of physical assault and death threats.
Siam claimed he was beaten inside Room 102 of Suhrawardy Hall's Block A on 3 November after failing to provide immediate identification, resulting in severe bruising around his right eye.
Siam’s complaint also alleged that Mezbaul Haque Miju, a joint convener of the campus Chhatra Dal unit, incited the violence. However, Miju strongly refuted the accusations, stating that he was not present at the hall during the incident and offering to verify university CCTV footage. Miju claimed that those involved were not his acquaintances and argued that the allegations were entirely baseless.
The initial altercation triggered retaliatory tensions the following day on 4 November, when Suhrawardy Hall third-year student Yamin was reportedly assaulted by a group of Isha Khan Hall students near Karim Building. Yamin also filed a formal complaint with the proctor's office, maintaining he had no prior connection to the initial dispute.
BAU Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Alim confirmed that the proctorial body has received the written complaints from both sides and is actively reviewing CCTV footage and physical evidence. He assured that all aspects of the clashes are under thorough investigation to uphold campus discipline and ensure accountability.
