Pakistan became the first team to reach the SAFF semi-finals after defeating the Maldives 3-0 in their Group A match at the National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday (November 8).

Abdullah opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the fourth minute before Najibullah struck twice in the ninth and 24th minutes to seal Pakistan's victory.

Pakistan dominated the first half and carried their three-goal advantage into the break. The Maldives made three substitutions after half-time but failed to find a way back into the match.

Mohammad Naeem had a shot saved by Pakistan goalkeeper and captain Yousuf Ijaz Butt in the 66th minute, while a Maldives goal was ruled out for offside a minute later.

Pakistan, who began their campaign with a 2-3 defeat to India, secured their place in the last four with the victory. The result leaves India and the Maldives competing for the remaining semi-final spot from Group A.

The Maldives will face India in their final group match on November 11. A draw would send India through alongside Pakistan.
