
The Historic Mujibnagar Day-2024 was observed on Wednesday across the country in a befitting manner with a call to know the real history to the young generation about the Liberation War.
On April 10, 1971 an exile government was formed with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as president, Syed Nazul Islam as vice-president, Tajuddin Ahmed prime minister, Khondokar Mostaque Ahmed foreign minister, M Mansur Ali finance minister and AHM Quamaruzzaman home and relief minister.
In the absence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was arrested on the night of March 25 and kept in a jail in the then West Pakistan during the whole period of the Liberation War, Syed Nazrul Islam was chosen as the acting president of the provisional Bangladesh government.
After formation of the exile government, Prime Minister of the then exile government Tajuddin Ahmed gave an address on the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra on April 11, and April 17 was fixed for taking oath of the first government of the country.
Accordingly, Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Captain Mansur Ali, AHM Quamaruzzaman and Khondokar Mostaque Ahmed came at the mango grove at Baidyanathtala under Meherpur Sub-Division in Kushtia District on April 17 in cooperation with sub-divisional officer Tawfiq-e-Elahi and took oath in presence of all walks of life including foreign journalists.
Chief whip of Awami League (AL) Professor Yousuf Ali from Dinajpur administered the oath taking ceremony and a team of ansar and freedom fighters (FFs) led by sub-divisional police officer Mahbub Uddin Ahmed gave guard of honour to the Mujibnagar government.
To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in districts including Gaibandha, Gopalganj, Joypurhat, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj, Noakhali, Panchagarh, Pirojpur and Rangamati.
GAIBANDHA: On the occasion, the district administration arranged a discussion meeting in the conference room of the deputy commissioners (DC) office in the town at noon with DC Kazi Nahid Rasul in the chair.
Local lawmaker Shah Sarwar Kabir, also the member of Standing Committee on the Ministry of Public Administration, attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Kamal Hossain, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Kaniz Sabiha, former commander of District Unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad FF Mahmudul Haque Shahjada and Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Matlubour Rahman spoke at the event as special guests.
Shah Sarwar Kabir, MP, in his speech said the Mujibnagar Government led the War of Liberation in 1971 and freed the country from the clutches of the Pakistani occupation forces on December 16 of the same year after fighting a nine-month-long war.
DC Kazi Nahid Rasul in her presidential speech said the proclamation of the independence was also endorsed on that day side by side taking oath of the first government of independent Bangladesh and he expected that the present generation would be able to know the real history of the Liberation War through observing the historic Mujibnagar Day.
A large number of people including district and upazila level officials, and journalists took part in the programme.
GOPALGANJ: To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in the district.
Gopalganj DC Kazi Mahbubul Alam placed a wreath on the grave of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara at around 9 am first.
Then, SP Al Belly Afifa, on behalf of District Police, Zilla Parishad, District AL, Tungipara Upazila AL, Gopalganj Municipality, Tungipara Municipality, Local Government Department, Roads and Highways Department, Public Health Department, Public Works Department, Government Bangabandhu College, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Mohila AL, Chhatra League and Juba League, among other organizations, paid floral tribute to Bangabandhu there in phases.
After placing wreaths, a special munajat was offered there seeking the eternal peace for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members martyred on August 15 in 1975, and all the martyred of the Liberation War.
District AL President Mahbub Ali Khan, Tungipara Upazila AL President Sheikh Abul Bashar Khayer, its Senior Vice-President Md Ilias Hossain, General Secretary (GS) Md Babul Sheikh, Municipal Mayor Sheikh Tozammel Haque Tutul, Tungipara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Moinul Haque and Officer-in-Charge of Tungipara Police Station Khandaker Aminur Rahman, among others, were also present at that time.
Later on, a discussion meeting on the significance of the Day was held in the conference room of the DC office in the district town at around 10 am.
Besides, a quiz competition was also arranged for the students of various educational institutions there.
JOYPURHAT: In this connection, the district administration organized different programmes in the town.
A rally was brought out from the DC office premises in the morning, and it ended at the same place after parading main streets of the town.
Later on, a discussion meeting was held in the DC office conference room with Joypurhat DC Salehin Tanvir Gazi.
District AL Vice-President and Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman SM Solaiman Ali, Additional SP (ASP) Ishtiaq Alam, FF Amzad Hossain, Deputy Director (DD) of District Department of Agricultural Extension Rahela Parvenn, Journalist Shahadul Islam Saju and District Fisheries Officer GM Selim, among others, also spoke at the programme conducted by Assistant Commissioner of the DC office Ujjal Bain.
Earlier, the national and the party flags were hoisted on the District AL office premises in the morning.
KISHOREGANJ: On this occasion, different programmes were organized in the district.
A discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the District Shilpakala Academy in the town.
Kishoreganj DC Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad was present as the chief guest while Additional DC (ADC) (General) Rubel Mahmud presided over the meeting.
SP Mohammad Russel Sheikh, CS Dr Saiful Islam, Zilla Parishad Chairman Md Zillur Rahman, and District AL GS Advocate MA Afzol spoke at the event as special guests.
Former commander of the District Muktijoddha Sangsad Md Asad Ullah, former deputy commander Abdul Mannan, Gonotantree Party President FF Bhupendra Bhowmik Dolon, and FF AB Siddique, among others, also attended the programme.

NOAKHALI: In this connection, a special munajat was organized at the central mosque of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU).
Acting President of NSTU Teachers Association Professor Dr SM Mahbubur Rahman, its GS and Proctor of the university Dr Md Anisuzzaman, Register Mohammad Jashim Uddin and GS of NSTU Officers Association Ibne Wazid Islam Imon, among other teachers, employees and students, were also present there.

The speakers, highlighting the importance of the historical Mujibnagar government and the independence of Bangladesh, said that it is an unforgettable day in the long history of the freedom struggle of Bangladesh.
The newly formed government played a very important role in creating international public opinion on behalf of Bangladesh and managing the government during the Liberation War, and under the competent leadership and guidance of this government, the Liberation War moved towards a successful end at the earliest.
As a result of the formation of this government, the people of the world extended their hands of support and cooperation to the armed struggle of Bengalis for freedom.
The importance and contribution of Mujibnagar government will be remembered forever in the history of our Liberation. The formation of this government was part of a far-reaching plan.
The activities of this government have made it easier to get international support and assistance. As a result, the country became independent in a very short time.
ADC Sohail Sultan Zulkar Nain Kabir, Abu Sufian along with district level officials, FFs and representatives of various social and cultural organizations were also present on the occasion.
PIROJPUR: In this connection, different programmes were organized in the district.
