Upazila Parishad Election Results

The second phase of sixth Upazila Parishad elections were held in 156 upazilas of the country on Tuesday amid low voter turnout. Reports of our correspondents have been given below:

Gaibandha District
Election to three Upazila Parishads of Gaibandha District was held peacefully on Tuesday.
 
The voting started at 8am and continued till 4pm without any break. After ending and counting votes, the results of the election were announced by the respective UNO in the evening.

In Sadar Upazila, Aminur Zaman Ringku was unofficially declared chairman of the Parishad. Ringku bagged 54, 796 votes.

His nearest candidate Advocate Istequr Rahman secured 48, 944 votes.


Rafiqul Islam Milan was unofficially declared vice-chairman of the Parishad. Milan bagged  37,371 votes and his nearest candidate Shariful Islam Sanzu got 28, 342 votes.

Morsheda Begum was unofficially declared female vice-chairman of the Parishad.  She bagged 99,087 votes and her nearest candidate Shilpi Khatun got 15, 294 votes.

In Palashbari Upazila, AK Moksed Chowdhury Bidyut, Forhad Mondal and Anowara Begum were unofficially declared chairman, vice-chairman and female vice-chairman of the Upazila Parishad respectively.

In the election, Moksed Chowdhury Bidyut bagged 19, 595 votes and his nearest candidate Touhidul Islam got   18, 074 votes.

Farhad Mondal bagged 24,306 votes and his nearest candidate ASM Rafiqul Islam got 20, 784 votes.

Anowara Begum bagged 21, 958 votes and her nearest candidate got 17, 867 votes.

In Gobindaganj Upazila, Lecturer Sakil Ahmed Bulbul, Abdul Matin and Papiya Rani Das were unofficially declared chairman, vice-chairman and female vice-chairman of the Parishad.

In the election, Bulbul bagged  91, 048 votes. His nearest candidate Abdul Latif Prodhan got 82,045 votes.
 
MA Matin secured 65,963 votes and his nearest candidate Shariful Islam Taju got 57, 537 votes.

Papiya Rani Das secured 45, 214 votes and her nearest candidate Umme Jahan Ringku got 34,052 votes.

Chuadanga District
In Sadar Upazila, Nayeem Hasan Joarder (Horse symbol) has been elected chairman by getting 50,811 votes and his closest rival (Motorcycle) got 36,172 votes.

On the other hand, Md Masudur Rahman (Tubewell) has been elected vice-chairman having 51,740 votes and his nearest candidate Hafijur Rahman (Chasma) got 27,549 votes.

Masuma Khatun (Football) has been elected female vice-chairman by taking 53,044 votes while her closest challenger Shahajadi  Milee (Jar) got 31,087 votes.

In Alamdanga Upazila,  K M Manjilur Rahman (Motorcycle) has been elected chairman getting 40,280 votes and his nearest rival Zillur Rahman (Horse) got 26,287 votes.

 As vice-chairman Masum Billah (Mike) has been elected by getting 17,335 votes and his closest candidate Ahammed Hasib Khan (Tala) got 15,860 votes.

Jamalpur District
Voting in the second phase of sixth Upazila Parishad elections in Bakshiganj, Dewanganj and Islampur Upazila of Jamalpur District was held peacefully on Tuesday.

Md Nazrul Islam (Horse symbol) was elected chairman unofficially in Bakshiganj Upazila. He got 28,836 votes.

 His nearest candidate Md Abdur Rouf Talukdar bagged 27,809 votes. In the election, Md Shahjalal and Zahura Begum were elected vice-chairman and women vice-chairman respectively.

In Dewanganj Upazila, Md Abul Kalam Azad (Horse symbol) was elected chairman unofficially getting 30,279 votes.

 His nearest rival Md Solaiman Hossain (Motor cycle symbol) got 25,898 votes. In the upazila, Md Arif Hossain as vice-chairman and Munni Aktar as woman vice-chairman were elected.  

On the other hand in Islampur Upazila,  Md Abdus Salam was elected chairman unopposed earlier as  lone candidate. Upazila Parishad election in Islampur was held among vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman candidates. Abdul Khalek Akanda and Abida Sultana were elected vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman respectively.  

Niamatpur Upazila, Naogaon
In Niamatpur Upazila of the district, Upazila Awami League Vice-President Farid Ahmed has been re-elected to the post of chairman in the Upazila Parishad elections.

He got 40,707 votes. His closest rival Upazila Awami League President Abul Kalam Ajad got 22,339 votes.

On the other hand, Raihan Kabir Raju was elected vice-chairman and Nazmin Ara Khatun was elected female vice-chairman.

Hajiganj Upazila, Chandpur
In Hajiganj Upazila of the district, Upazila Awami League President Helal Uddin Miyaji has been elected chairman in the Upazila Parishad elections.

He got 26,588 votes with pineapple symbol. His nearest rival Haji Jasim Uddin got 25,070 votes and Abu Sufian Majumdar Rana got 1,030 votes.

Kamruzzaman Sumon was elected unopposed vice-chairman. On the other hand, Rabeya Akter was elected female vice-chairman. She has also served in this position before this term. She was elected with 28,084 votes. Her nearest rival Ruby Akter got 24,199 votes.

Assistant Returning Officer and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tapas Sheel and Upazila Election Officer Faruk Hossain confirmed the result around 8:30 pm.

Sonargaon Upazila, Narayanganj
Former acting general secretary of Sonargaon Upazila Awami League Mahfuzur Rahman Kalam was elected chairman of Sonargaon Upazila Parishad elections. He got 81,959 votes. His closest rival Babul Hossain Babu got 75,625 votes.

Kawkhali Upazila, Pirojpur
In Kawkhali Upazila Parishad elections, Abu Syeed Mia Manu (Horse symbol) has been elected chairman for the second time by getting 11,284 votes.

Assistant Returning Officer and Upazila Election Officer confirmed the matter on Tuesday night. His nearest rival Moniruzzaman Talukder Paltan got 6,294 votes and Biswajit Pal got 5,429 votes.

On the other hand, Mridul Ahmed has been elected vice-chairman for the second time by getting 10,107 votes. The closest challenger Bipul Baran Ghosh got 6547 votes.

Fatima Yasmin (Duck symbol)  was elected female vice-chairman with 14,547 votes.  Her nearest rival Seema Akter of Jatiya Party JP got 11,802 votes with Bi-cycle symbol.
