The Supreme Court's Appellate Division on Monday upheld the previous verdict on gazette restoring the boundaries of the Faridpur-4 constituency to its previous state.
The order was issued by a bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury.
On December 11, the High Court declared illegal a gazette issued by the Election Commission that had transferred Algi and Hamirdi unions of Bhanga upazila from Faridpur-4 to Nagar Kanda upazila under Faridpur-2.
The writ petition was argued by Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallob.
Earlier, on September 22, the High Court had issued a rule asking the Election Commission to explain why the gazette altering the Faridpur-4 constituency boundary should not be declared unlawful.
The dispute over the Faridpur-4 boundary emerged ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections. BNP nomination aspirant Md Shahidul Islam Babul, along with Supreme Court lawyer Md Mahbubur Rahman Dulal and three others, had filed the writ petition challenging the boundary change.
With the Appellate Division’s latest ruling, the Faridpur-4 constituency boundary will remain unchanged, and the previous electoral configuration will continue to apply.
