CA press wing dismisses communal angle in cremation obstruction claim

Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Tuesday rejected claims of a communal motive behind the reported obstruction to the cremation of an elderly Hindu woman in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj district.

In a statement shared on its verified Facebook page, CA Press Wing Facts, the press wing said several social media posts had alleged that members of “Tawhidi Janata” obstructed the cremation and portrayed the incident as an act of minority repression.

The statement clarified that these claims were misleading and unfounded.

According to the press wing, the incident had no communal connection. The temporary complication arose from an internal dispute within the Hindu community regarding the name of crematorium. The deceased woman’s relatives announced the crematorium as “Ullapara Mohasosan” during miking, while its current name is “Ghoshgati Mohasosan.”

As a result, the person in charge of the crematorium delayed handing over the key, asking the family to go to the crematorium mentioned in the announcement.

This led to protests by the woman’s relatives. Following the intervention of the upazila administration, the key was obtained and the cremation was completed on the same day.

Bablu Bhowmik of Ghoshgati village said that the confusion over the crematorium’s name caused the delay, not any communal issue.

Ullapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) ATM Arif also confirmed that the problem occurred due to the key not being provided immediately after the woman’s death.

The press wing statement concluded that there was no communal element in the incident and accused certain social media posts of distorting facts to spread confusion.
