The ongoing cold wave affecting several parts of the country is expected to continue for another three to four days, lasting until January 11, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

In its regular weather bulletin, the Met Office said a mild to moderate cold wave is currently sweeping across the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barishal divisions, as well as the districts of Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Kishoreganj, Manikganj, Narsingdi, Narayanganj, Netrokona, Moulvibazar, Lakshmipur and Cumilla and is likely to persist.

The bulletin also warned that moderate to dense fog may form across the country from midnight to morning hours, with foggy conditions in some areas continuing until noon.

Night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged, while daytime temperatures may rise slightly across the country.

The weather is likely to remain dry with temporarily partly cloudy skies.

The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 6.7 degrees Celsius in Badalgachhi of Naogaon district, while Dhaka experienced its season’s lowest temperature of 11.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Met Office reported that a well-marked low pressure system over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean remains stationary.

The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify further. Its associated trough extends up to the northern Bay of Bengal, while a ridge of the sub-continental high pressure system stretches over West Bengal and the adjoining western part of Bangladesh.
