Shibir-backed candidates win top posts in JnUCSU election

Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed panel ‘Odommo Jobian Oikko’ secured a landslide victory in the Jagannath University Central Students Union (JnUCSU) election, winning 16 out of the 21 posts, including vice-president (VP), general secretary (GS) and assistant general secretary (AGS).

Contesting under the banner of the 'Odomyo Jobian Oikko' panel, the Shibir-backed candidates emerged victorious after votes from all 38 polling centres were counted.

Meanwhile, the Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Odhikar Parishad-backed panel ‘Oikkoboddho Nirbhik Jobian’ panel won five posts.

Riazul Islam, president of the Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Jagannath University unit, was elected Vice-President with 5,558 votes, while unit secretary Abdul Alim Arif secured the General Secretary post with 5,475 votes. Masud Rana of “Up Bangladesh” won the Assistant General Secretary position with 5,020 votes.

The panel supported by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal won three secretarial posts. Takrim Mia won the post of literature and culture affairs secretary with 5,385 votes, Mahid Hossain won the post of transport affairs secretary with 4,023 votes, and Md Riasal Rakib won the post of library and seminar affairs secretary with 4,698 votes.

JnUCSU chief election commissioner professor Mostafa Hasan officially announced the results at around 1AM on Thursday.

According to Election Commissioner Zulfikar Mahmud, a total of 16,645 voters were registered for the JnUCSU election.

Voter turnout stood at approximately 65 percent, indicating a significant level of student participation in the long-awaited campus polls.
