A massive fire broke out at several jhut (scrap) warehouses in Dewaliabari area of Konabari in Gazipur district on Thursday afternoon.
According to fire service, the blaze started at around 4:00–4:15 PM at a jhut godown and quickly spread to adjacent warehouses, prompting a large-scale firefighting operation.
Initially, two units from Konabari Modern Fire Station rushed to the scene, but as the fire intensified and spread, six more units were deployed.
Konabari Modern Fire Station warehouse inspector Saiful Islam said a total of eight firefighting units were working to bring the fire under control, with locals also assisting in the efforts.
Several jhut godowns are located close to one another in the area, which contributed to the rapid spread of the flames. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be determined immediately and will be assessed after the fire is fully extinguished, said the fire service official.
