Fans of Thalapathy Vijay were eagerly awaiting his last film, Jana Nayagan, and tickets had already gone on advance sale. However, the film’s release in India has been temporarily stalled due to delays in obtaining certification from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), leaving audiences disappointed.
The production house KVN Productions released a statement expressing regret over the postponement. “With heavy hearts, we inform our audience and partners that due to unavoidable circumstances, the release of Jana Nayagan, originally scheduled for January 9, has been postponed. The new release date will be announced shortly,” the statement read.
The producers added, “We fully understand the excitement and emotions of our viewers surrounding this film. This decision was not easy for anyone involved, and we request patience and continued support until the release.”
According to reports from Indian media outlet NDTV, Jana Nayagan has not yet received CBFC approval. Following the delay, the filmmakers approached the Madras High Court, which has now ordered the formation of a new committee to review the film and has temporarily stayed any final decision regarding its release.
The Tamil version must obtain certification before Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada dubbed versions can be approved, effectively halting the multi-language release plan for now.
In Karnataka, all shows at Victory Cinemas on January 9 have been canceled. The theater management has assured that online ticket holders will automatically receive refunds, while tickets purchased at the counter can be refunded starting today.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamta Baiju, Gautam Basudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain.
