Mobile 'Voter Gari' campaigns in Porsha

PORSHA, NAOGAON, Jan 9: A government-designated 'Voter Gari' (Vehicle of Vote) carried out a public awareness campaign in Porsha Upazila of Naogaon to encourage voter participation and raise awareness ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election and the upcoming referendum.

As part of a nationwide initiative, the mobile campaign was conducted in front of the upazila administration building on Thursday night. The campaign, themed "The key to the country is in your hands," aims to promote awareness of voting rights, highlight the importance of the referendum, and help create a festive and inclusive electoral environment through broad public participation.

Operated under the supervision of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Super Caravatte van fleet's mobile unit screened a series of documentaries over an hour-long programme. The documentaries focused on the July mass uprising, the sacrifices of July fighters, the killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad, and the murder of Felani at the border. The screenings underscored the significance of democracy, justice, and state accountability.

During the programme, a recorded speech by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus was broadcast. In his address, he stressed the necessity of state reforms through a referendum, the establishment of good governance, and the civic duties and responsibilities of citizens. He also highlighted, for the first time, the importance of ensuring voting rights for expatriate Bangladeshis.

Among those present were Porsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rakibul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mosammat Nabila Ferdous, Officer-in-Charge of Porsha Police Station Ziaur Rahman, Acting Election Officer Rabiul Awal, and LGED Engineer ANM Sultanul Imam, alongside people from various professions.

Speaking after the programme, UNO Rakibul Islam said such mobile government initiatives would help increase public interest in both the parliamentary election and the referendum. He expressed optimism that the campaign would play a positive role in boosting youth participation in voting.

He added that, in line with government decisions, the "vote vehicle" would continue its outreach at the union level from Friday, with campaigns planned at key locations including Shisha Bazar, Nechanahar Bazar, and Saraigachhi Mor.
