Youth gets life  term for rape in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, Oct 15: A Gopalganj court has sentenced a young man named Firoz Sikder to life imprisonment with hard labour and also fined him Tk lakh, in default, to serve one more year in jail, for raping a 15-year-old girl in Kashiani Upazila of the district.

The verdict was delivered on Thursday afternoon by Mohammad Morshed Alam, Judge of the Gopalganj Children’s Repression Prevention Tribunal and District and Sessions Judge.

According to the case records, the incident happened on the night of December 16, 2023, in Puishur Village of Kashiani Upazila, where the accused lured and raped the victim. Following the incident, the victim’s mother, Rushna Begum, filed a rape case with Kashiani Police Station.

After completing the investigation, police submitted a charge sheet to the court. Following the conclusion of witness testimonies and legal proceedings, the court handed down the sentence and subsequently ordered the convict to be sent to the district jail.
