Saraswati Puja, one of the principal religious festivals of the Hindu community, will be observed across the country on Friday.
Dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of wisdom and knowledge, the festival is especially celebrated by students and devotees at temples and educational institutions.
It falls on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Magh and is also known as Vasant Panchami, marking the goddess’s birth.
At Dhaka University, Jagannath Hall has completed preparations to host the festival, with a total of 76 puja mandaps set up under the supervision of the hall administration.
Students from various departments and institutes are expected to take part in the rituals, which will include traditional religious ceremonies, cultural performances, devotional music and offerings, reflecting the hall’s long-standing Saraswati Puja tradition.
On Thursday, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus extended his greetings and congratulations to the Hindu community on the occasion.
In his message, he highlighted Bangladesh as a “shining example of communal harmony,” where people of all religions and ethnicities have coexisted peacefully for thousands of years.
“This country belongs to all of us. Bangladesh is a safe and peaceful homeland for everyone, irrespective of religion or caste,” he said.
Prof Yunus also emphasized that education should not only serve personal advancement but also contribute to societal progress and he wished peace, welfare and prosperity to all citizens of Bangladesh, including members of the Hindu faith.
