
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 458 people in separate operations across the capital over the past 24 hours and filed 64 cases, police said on Tuesday.
According to DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Niaz Mehdi, officers recovered counterfeit currency worth Tk 2.8 million during the drives.
Police also seized 11.98 kg of cannabis, 6,336 Yaba tablets, 90 bottles of phensedyl, a one-shot firearm, a samurai sword, 17 mobile phones, 30 blank cheque leaves and Tk 1,080 in cash.
Among those arrested, 135 were detained in Mirpur Division, followed by 71 in Uttara, 57 in Tejgaon, 49 in Wari, 37 in Lalbagh, 36 in Motijheel, 34 in Ramna, 31 in Gulshan, six by the Detective Branch (DB) and two by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
Legal action against the arrestees is underway, the DMP official said.
