Candidates vie for votes with promises in four Natore seats

NATORE, Jan 26: Candidates in the district are deeply engaged in electioneering for the 13th national parliament election, making various development promises. They are spending busy time canvassing for votes.

Candidates are visiting voters door-to-door, holding conversations, and distributing leaflets. They are also organising public assemblies, processions, and view-exchange meetings.

Natore District comprises four parliamentary constituencies. The candidate and voter positions are as follows: 

In Natore-1 constituency (Lalpur-Bagatipara), Farzana Sharmin Putul of the BNP is a candidate. She is popular in her constituency. Initially, her brother Dr. Yeasir Arafat Rajon and another candidate, Taiful Islam Tipu, Assistant Office Secretary of the BNP Central Committee, stood against her. Rajon later withdrew his nomination in sympathy for his sister, but Tipu remains, contesting with the 'Kalash' (Jar) symbol.

General voters are favouring Putul, with hints suggesting she may win this seat. However, Jamaat candidate Abul Kalam Azad is also contesting. The final result between Putul and Azad will be determined during the election.

Other candidates in this seat are Ansar Ali (Bangladesh Workers Party, symbol 'Kodal'), Md. Abdullah Hel Baki (Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB), 'Hand Fan'), Mehedi Hasan (Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP), 'Truck'), Sentu Ali (Gano Sanghati Andolan, 'Mathal'), and independent candidate Moazzem Hossain ('Deer'). This seat has 3,49,369 voters.

In Natore-2 constituency (Sadar-Naldanga), six candidates are contesting. The main contest is expected between BNP candidate M. Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, a former minister, and Jamaat candidate Professor Md. Younus.

The general people see Dulu as the most experienced candidate in the field, while others are newcomers. They expect Dulu to perform well as before.

Other candidates are Rakib Uddin Komol (Jatiya Party, 'Plough'), Muhammad Ali (IAB, 'Hand Fan'), Tahmida Islam Tania (Gano Sanghati, 'Mathal'), and independent  candidate Dr. Md. Noorunnabi Mridha ('Football'). Voter numbers here are 3,84,029.

In Natore-3 constituency (Singra), Principal Anwarul Islam Anu of the BNP and Dowder Mahmud, an expelled BNP candidate, are contesting. Professor Sydur Rahaman was initially a candidate but, following a 10-Party Alliance decision, left the seat for NCP candidate S.M. Jourjis Kader.

Other candidates are Ashik Iqbal (Jatiya Party, 'Plough') and Khalilur Rahaman (IAB, 'Hand Fan'). This constituency has 3,08,794 voters.

In Natore-4 constituency (Boraigrame-Gurudaspur), five candidates are contesting, including from the BNP and Jamaat. The main fight is between BNP candidate Abdul Aziz and Jamaat candidate Abdul Hakim.
Other candidates are Md. Yousuf Ahmed (Jatiya Party, 'Plough'), Md. Emdad Ullah (IAB, 'Hand Fan'), and Md. Moksedul Momin (AB Party, 'Eagle'). This seat has 4,20,470 voters.
