Elderly couple murdered in Tangail

TANGAIL, Jan 27: An elderly couple has been allegedly strangled to death in Bhasail Upazila of Tangail District.
 
Cash money and gold jewellery were looted from their house during the incident. Two unknown labourers, brought for paddy transplanting work, have been identified as suspects. 

Their bodies were recovered from their house in Ghoshakhali Village under Habla Union on Tuesday morning.

The deceased are Motahar Sikdar, also known as Thandu, 75, and his wife Rezia Begum, 65, from Ghoshakhali Village.

The victims' grandson, Shakil Sikdar, stated that two labourers named Sharif and Sumon were brought for paddy transplanting work last Sunday. As Motahar Sikdar had severe leg pain, they gave him herbal medicine. On Monday night, the labourers were arranged to sleep on the veranda, while the couple slept inside the room.

It is alleged that at night, the labourers cut through a tin sheet, opened the door, and entered the room. They then strangled Motahar Sikdar and his wife to death, looted cash and gold ornaments, and fled.
