A Dhaka University (DU) student and Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist, accused of robbing Tk 30,000 at knife-point from four private university students, has denied the allegation, claiming the incident arose from a misunderstanding over a financial transaction.

Arif Faisal, a 2024-25 batch student of the Communication Disorder Department, submitted a written statement on Tuesday to University Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, explaining his version of events.

The incident allegedly occurred on January 25 in Shahbagh, where Faisal was accused of robbing four students from private universities.

In his statement, Faisal, who served as coordinator of the JCD election committee for Rangpur-3 constituency in the 13th national parliamentary election, said the issue originated from a misunderstanding with his acquaintance, 'Niyaz Bhai', regarding a previous financial transaction. He added that the matter was later resolved between them privately.

Faisal alleged that a third party, along with elected DUCSU representatives AB Zubair and Musaddiq, falsely accused him of robbery. He further claimed that some news portals misrepresented the story to harass him personally and politically.

He demanded that proper action be taken against those spreading false accusations and urged that the DUCSU leaders who implicated him be held accountable.
