Seven officials and staff members of Kashimpur Central Women's Prison in Gazipur have been suspended after a 21-year-old female inmate escaped by scaling the prison wall.
The suspended personnel include three matrons"Laila Anjuman Sumi, Marina and Rehena"and four female prison guards- Shayla, Sharmin, Jemi and Asma.
Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Prisons Md Jannatul Farhad confirmed the matter on Saturday, saying that the seven officials were suspended on Friday after an investigation found evidence of negligence in the discharge of their duties.
According to prison authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday evening when around 40 female inmates were assigned to carry bricks inside the prison compound.
Taking advantage of inadequate supervision by the duty matron, inmate Rimpa, 21, climbed onto the cornice of a wall besides the prison's administrative building and scaled the perimeter wall before escaping.
Rimpa is the daughter of Md Hasan from Raipur area of Gangni upazila in Meherpur district. She had been serving a three-month sentence at Kashimpur Central Women's Prison after being convicted in a mobile court case under Dhaka's Dhanmondi Police Station. Following the escape, prison authorities conducted a thorough search of the facility but failed to locate her. A review of CCTV footage later confirmed that she had escaped from the prison.
