NILPHAMARI, Feb 2: ATM Azharul Islam, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, said, "Over the past 54 years, you have seen the Boat, Sheaf of Paddy, and Plough. This time, look at the Balance Scale." He stated that if Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, it will first stop corruption, and as a result, half of the country's work will be done.
He made these remarks as the chief guest in an election rally on Monday afternoon on the Nilphamari Central Shaheed Minar premises, held in support of the 11-Party Alliance's nominated candidate for Nilphamari-02 (Sadar) constituency, Advocate Al Faruk Abdul Latif.
Presided over by the Ameer of the Municipal Jamaat Professor Anwarul Islam, the election rally was addressed by Maulana Abdul Halim, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami; Abu Sadiq Kayem, Vice-President (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU); Mostakur Rahman Zahid, VP of the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU); Bir Muktijoddha Maniruzzaman Montu, Political Secretary of the District Jamaat; Professor Antazul Islam, Secretary of the District Jamaat; and Principal Abdus Sattar, Ameer of the District Jamaat.
The chief guest ATM Azharul Islam said, "A leader of one party, after returning to the country after 17 years, is saying in election rallies, 'We will not flee.' Having fled and returned, he is now telling lies and making false promises. The people have awakened and will support Jamaat."
DUCSU VP Sadiq Kayem said, "The youth have now taken a stand for justice. In the upcoming election on February 12, they will stand for justice and elect the Balance Scale. In the past year and a half, a party's 500-day report card shows they have scored a 'double century' in internal conflicts. Two hundred people have been killed. They are not even safe among themselves, so how will the country be safe in their hands?"
Urging the people not to make a wrong decision, Sadiq Kayem said, "To establish a corruption-free country and prevent the rise of fascism, the Scale must be victorious."
The rally was conducted by Advocate Mamunur Rashid Patwari, Assistant Secretary of the Municipal Jamaat.
Leaders and activists of Jamaat from 15 unions and various areas of the town joined the rally in separate processions.
