Magura students get  scholarship cheques 

MAGURA, Aug 15: Funded by the Magura Zilla Parishad, educational scholarship cheques worth Tk 5,000 have been distributed to each of 286 underprivileged and meritorious students and musical instruments and project cheques have been handed over to representatives of three cultural organisations in a programme held at the district auditorium on Saturday afternoon. 

Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury, MP, attended the event as the chief guest, while Magura-1 Constituency MP Md Monowar Hossain was the main speaker.

Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Motakabbir Ahmed, Superintendent of Police Molla Azad Hossain, PPM (Service), Civil Surgeon Dr Md Shamim Kabir, and Principal of Government HSS College Prof Dr Md Alfaz Uddin were present as special guests. Magura Zilla Parishad Administrator Ali Ahmed chaired the programme.

Speaking at the event, Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury said a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against drugs. “If we cannot save our society from drugs,  it will not be able to rise again,” he said.

Regarding the Family Card, the minister said arrangements would be made to provide this card to every family.

He said the Family Card would be issued to women with the aim of making them self-reliant and ensuring their dignity and respect.

Regarding the observance of Nazrul Barsho, Nitai Roy Chowdhury said that Nazrul Barsho would be observed in every educational institution across the country from September 1.
